Tell Governor Joe Lombardo to Protect Fire Safety From Donald Trump's Cuts

The threat of wildfires in Nevada is not just a future concern; it is a present-day crisis. In 2023 alone, Nevada experienced a staggering 375 wildfires, devastating over 1,300 acres of land! This alarming trend is nothing new. From 1980 to 1999, wildfires ravaged 4.2 million acres across our state, and shockingly, between 2000 and 2018, that number more than doubled to an appalling 9.5 million acres!

The statistics reveal a shocking reality: between 2001 and 2023, wildfires were responsible for an astonishing 87% of tree cover loss in Nevada. Our forests, wildlife, and ecosystems are disappearing, and with them, our safety and air quality. The catastrophic 2018 Martin and Sugarloaf Fires, which burned nearly one million acres in northeast Nevada, serve as a chilling reminder of what is at stake if action is not taken NOW.

 Tell Governor Joe Lombardo:

We, the people of Nevada, are writing to urgently call on Governor Joe Lombardo to put the safety and well-being of our communities above political allegiances. It is time to stand up against the influence of Donald Trump and prioritize the protection of Nevadans from the devastating effects of fire safety cuts proposed by his administration.

Governor Lombardo, this is not just about numbers; this is about the deeply rooted fear and anxiety that wildfires instill in our communities. It is about protecting our families, homes, and beloved natural landscapes. We cannot afford to allow political favors and misguided loyalties to dictate fire safety policies that directly threaten our lives.

We demand that you:

1. Reject any fire safety cuts proposed by the Trump Administration.
2. Increase funding for fire prevention and safety programs in Nevada.
3. Prioritize the restoration and protection of our forests and wildlands.

It is time to choose the safety of Nevadans over political posturing. We urge you to stand with your constituents and take decisive action to protect our state from the catastrophic consequences of wildfires.
